But the point is that women here are not beaten for expressing themselves. Women here are allowed to behave as they wish. If they would like to live under a veil that have every right to do so, if they do not wish to, they do not have to. It would be impossible to know if crime in Kabul is less than here. I doubt their reporting of crimes is very good. I, as a relativist, believe the Afghan people have a right to self destiny. I even think they have every right to blow up the statues in their country- just as the Chinese had every right to destroy their cultural heritage. But just as in China, it is almost impossible to get a handle on the large scale repression in a society where xenophobia is at such a fever pitch. You think you know Afghans. But you know Afghans here. BFD. There is a world of difference between ex-patriots and the actual residents of a country. You might be right about the population of Afghanistan, and then again you might not. With the wholesale repression there, it would be impossible for you to find the truth. Most people will not tell the truth, when the truth may get them killed.
