Thanks for the link Karen, I'll have to have a boo at it later. If history is any indication at all, then we had better be very careful before we start playing eugenics. We can't even mange something as simple as introducing new fish into an eco system without screwing it up. Lofty goals like reducing disease can easily be turned into a quest for a master race, especially since we have already rejected any concept of ultimate responsibility. There are simply no binding guiding principals to inform this. If we are going to cull all non perfect embryos why should we stop there? Perhaps we should sterilize all non perfect adults and prevent them from breeding future non perfect offspring. All those non perfect babies that slipped through should be simply put down, like the dogs they are. After all they are so expensive to keep and they can't possibly bring anyone joy.
Then there are all those non perfect thinkers, those close minded types, we might as well get rid of them while we're at it, no? Who gets to be the arbiter of perfection anyway? Should everyone have blue eyes and blond hair? What if the Iranians get this technology first, will everyone have dark hair and olive skin? We could end up like ants or bees, with worker drones, half human half ape for heavy lifting. Who knows? These things seem extreme but who's going to police it?
