I recall WIND management alluding to upcoming NC-type announcements, but not specifically Ellison's 24th of June announcement. WIND management also indicated that they don't expect to see 2nd generation NCs produced until 1998.

It is fun to speculate on all sorts of possibilities that could surface on the 24th, but the most likely is that Ellison simply will deliver on promises made about availability of production NC's, no doubt by an array of six to eight manufacturers. I would think any NC he demonstrates would be the Unix-derived, 1st generation NC. I doubt he will breathe a word about a 2nd generation NC, for fear of weakening the impact of what he will be showing/announcing. Conceivably a large part of the announcement could focus on the interplay between thin NCs and Oracle's NC servers.

On the other hand, he may play a trump from his Navio hand, by at least announcing one or more creative internet devices that are not NCs precisely. As I recall, the pre-announcement indicated he will be presenting something to do with NCI. Since Navio extends NCI to more than NC's in the strict sense, Ellison could entertain us in a number of interesting ways, any of which could have direct and positive implications for WIND.

Nicely put.
