Clinton was elected promising to end welfare as we knew it then. He rolled up his sleeves and went to work. But without removing the safety nets. Many Republicans also deserve credit, especially at the state level but that was a bi-partisan effort in the best sense of the word. No argument there.

"Liberals like me"? I'm not a liberal. I fought Nader during the election though he did say some truthful things.
I fought him because he threatened our environmental policies just as much as Bush/Cheney did. Extremeists on either side are unrealistic and dangerous if you ask me.
I'm a moderate in some ways liberal in other ways conservative. For instance I wish we would invade Cuba. Kennedy's mistake was trying to keep it a secret, a lie. Should have just gone in and did it. Instead The Bay of Pigs. I was also for taking out Saddam not leaving him there like Bush did. But dismantling sopcial and environmental programs makes no sense. You just pay much more later.

I am a hybrid like most people these days except your extremists on the right. (and Naderites on the left).
I am very conservative about several major issues including being fiscally conservative which means don't give the rich tax breaks until you've paid off the debt and law and order conservative (which emans tighten gun laws and don't believe the BS propaganda the NRA throws out there). I am also conservative about the environment and energy - that is CONSERVE IT.

So-called conservatives seem to run up the biggest national debts and waste the most despite their BS talk about "smaller government". Which really means letting the rich off the hook for having to help pay for needed social programs to keep this country in balance.
