Tell that to the millions of dead fish, otters, birds and other lifeforms contaminated for generations by toxins ingested from the oil spill. Reports are the salmon streams no longer run full and that effects everything down the good chain. Don't be so naive. If one quart of motor oil can pollute a million gallons of water think what millions of barrels of crude can do. To deny longterm damage is just to parrot oil company PR. True over the decades wildlife comes back but what happened with the Exxon Valdez will happen again someday unless we minimize the oil business up there and police it much more than it wants to be policed. Even double-hulled tankers are no guarantee of safety. If you believe they're unsinkable just remember the Titanic. And already broken pipelines have spilled lakes of oil onto the Alaskan tundra. That is virtually impossible to clean up. Just a big permanent toxic stain.
