If we are on a team struggling to move a ball against an opponent, we would like to keep everyone on our team focused on the objective. There are those other people, over there, having ice cream and pop (Spectators). Well part way through the game as I'm getting sore and tired that ice cream starts looking pretty good. My coach says us players are denied the opportunity. OK, I like that on several levels but mainly because I want our cause to succeed.

This may be the worst analogy you ever saw. Everyone here tries to point out how the women of Afghanistan are suffering in the cultural denial of the Taleban movement. It is a movement that the typical Afghan, male and female, have rallied behind. To many, it is a pioneering effort. Pioneer women in America were denied the oppertunity to go to a debutant ball. Would they have also liked to go to the ball. Probably, but opportunity costs.

When you say that at least American women have a choice, you are wrong. Many American women would prefer to be home but our culture requires single unsupported women to go to work in order to have a life of any dignity. This would not be the case in Afghanistan. I am for our culture. In fact, I would probably support a counter revolution against the Taleban but not on the basis that the Women are being oppressed. The point is, there are trade offs in any culture and ours isn't the open ended opportunity that many think or want.
