Amdahl Spectris Storage Subsystem Achieves Faster Response Times
and Higher Throughput

Enhancements to Spectris storage subsystem provide S/390
customers with continuous non-stop availability and
consistent performance
Amdahl Corporation today announced the availability of Spectris(TM) Gold, a new version of the company's Spectris
RAID storage subsystem. Spectris Gold provides extra throughput and responsiveness for today's most demanding
System/390 environments through faster SPARC(R) microprocessors in the storage processor hardware. The product
offers continuous access to data and consistently high performance, even when RAID drive recovery is in process.
The new version of the Spectris subsystem has demonstrated significantly increased throughput capacity over its
predecessor. Spectris Gold has further demonstrated improved reductions in response times varying by application and
configuration. Current Spectris customers will have the option to upgrade to Spectris Gold.
``Amdahl customers report 21 to 30 percent improvement in response times compared to previous DASD devices. With
the upgrade to Spectris Gold we have also measured improvements in batch response times of between 18 and 37
percent,'' said Jim Keady, vice president, Amdahl Compatible Storage.
Customers have the option to build upon the Spectris Gold non-stop performance platform by using the recently
announced Amdahl Transparent Data Migration Service (TDMS), a software tool that enables the migration of data to
the Spectris storage subsystem without downtime.
Spectris Gold is optimized for deployment in Parallel Sysplex environments and joins a full range of products and services
for migration to Parallel Sysplex, which includes Amdahl high-performance Millennium(TM) servers.
