William, and Intel Invesors - Re: "300 MHz Pentium II Machines"

For those of you who think a single 300 MHz Pentium II may not be up for your heavy-duty computing tasks, Tri-Star computers can "put you into" a DUAL 300 MHz Pentium II system.

Please see the article posted below.

These 300 MHz systems are starting to appear in greater abundance. Perhaps that chip is more real than Intel competitors would like us to believe.

Perhaps Intel will not be going out of business this month.

( BW)(TRI-STAR-COMPUTER-1) TRI-STAR COMPUTER announces powerful
300MHz Pentium II-based workstations

Business Editors/Computer Writers

TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 1997--TRI-STAR COMPUTER
Monday announced the introduction of two new 300MHz Intel-based
Pentium II workstations.
The new StarStation(TM) and StudioStation II(TM) models are
available with single or dual 300MHz Pentium II processors, enabling
designers to have the highest Intel-based performance levels
available for 3D animation and CAD/CAM applications.
Tri-Star engineers have measured a significant increase in
performance with the leading 3D animation and other
graphics-intensive software applications most customers prefer, when
comparing 300MHz Pentium II-based workstations to 266MHz Pentium
II-based workstations.
The 300MHz Pentium II module includes 512K L2 cache and the MMX
instruction set. In addition to the faster clock speed, these
factors have been found to contribute significantly to performance
gains as measured by digital media production users.
"Our StarStation II and StudioStation II models deliver the
highest-performance results from an Intel-based system, allowing
design and engineer professionals unlimited capabilities to support
them in maintaining a competitive edge, while still offering
custom-configured workstations at substantial savings," said
Tri-Star Executive Vice President Robert Powers.
Powers also said the benefits of choosing a 300MHz Pentium
II-based workstation over a traditional UNIX system are evident in
the comparable performance levels combined with the added advantage
of lower total cost of ownership.
StarStation II and StudioStation II models feature 300MHz
Pentium II Processors with 64MB to 1024MB EDO RAM, 512 L2 cache, two
ISA, five PCI and one shared expansion slot, Ultra/Wide SCSI-3
controller, 2.1 to 9.1GB Ultra/Wide SCSI-3 hard drive, 3D Labs
500TX-based OGL graphics accelerator, ViewSonic 17- or 21-inch
monitor, 16X CD-ROM, Keytronic keyboard, Logitech Mouse and Windows
NT 4.0 Workstation installed.
As always, Tri-Star offers custom configurations to fit the
individual needs of every customer. Pentium II-based 300MHz
StarStation II and StudioStation II models start at $5995.
Founded in 1988, Tri-Star Computer Corp. is a privately-held
company that manufactures low-cost, high-quality, high-performance
Windows NT workstations and servers. Tri-Star workstations and
servers are used mainly by graphic intensive software users in the
CAD/CAM/CAE, multimedia and 3D animation markets.
Tri-Star's standard and customized workstations are primarily
sold directly to end users via direct mail catalogs and selectively
through specialized Value Added Resellers. Company headquarters are
at 2424 W. 14th Street, Tempe, AZ, 85281-6900. Tri-Star can be
