I was talking about NDX, not Nasdaq. It did suffer a decline in 1993-94, from 800 to 350, but it recovered all of it and much more. No, it should not "discount" normal returns. Look at Japan - I don't really know where the bottom of Nikkei will be... And it was significantly less of a bubble there in 1989. In 1932 Dow closed lower than where it was when it started the bubble bull market (at 64, closed at 42???).
