Hifn Packet Processing Featured in CoSine Communications' Multi-Gigabit IPSX 9500
New HIPP Security Products From Hifn Help Power CoSine's Latest High-Performance Switches
LOS GATOS, Calif., July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Network security and flow classification market leader Hifn(TM) (Nasdaq: HIFN - news) announced today that the IPSX 9500(TM) Service Processing Switch from CoSine Communications features multiple Hifn security processors from its recently introduced HIPP family (Hifn Intelligent Packet Processing).

CoSine's Scalable High-rate Architecture for Routing and Computing (SHARC(TM)) service generator is the first in the industry to offer service providers the ability to deliver a new portfolio of revenue generating IP services that scale to the speed of light. Four Hifn HIPP security processors per service generator are linked over a streaming bus interface, a first ever implementation of its kind.

``This latest offering from CoSine is a powerful instrument for Service Providers requiring massive scalability and multi-gigabit performance,'' says Glen Young, Hifn business line manager. ``We are extremely gratified by the fact that Hifn security processors are part of such an innovative networking solution. CoSine enables Service Providers to realize new revenue streams by delivering value-added services while dramatically reducing capital spending, because a single IPSX 9500 can support hundreds of thousands of sites.''

Hifn is the first company to implement packet processing as part of its security solutions, thereby speeding up the entire process of compression, encryption, authentication, public key and random number generation. Other security solutions concentrate on accelerating the various cryptographic algorithms, leaving CPUs or network processors to deal with complex header and trailer processing, packet fragmentation, and other packet processing issues.

The Hifn HIPP family is supported by a comprehensive set of software tools, including a Software Development Kit (SDK) and Hifn's Security Platform (HSP), a collection of hardware and software that provide a full security reference solution for manufacturers of IPSec and SSL networking products.

``Hifn addresses a part of the packet processing cycle that is key to fast and scalable security solutions,'' says Bryan Monaghan, director of product management for CoSine Communications. ``Both are essential to meeting our product road map requirements.''
