There is a difference between a drop in the dollar and the collapse of the dollar. A minimum requirement for a collapse of the dollar would be the demise of the budget surplus and a return to deficits compounded by the current account deficit remaining at very high levels. At the moment, the return of deficits is not a given, with the best possibility being a correction in the value of the dollar which will not move gold out of its current trading range.
