"How does a spinster without inherited wealth manage?"

"How does a spinster without inherited wealth manage?" I don't see that as one of the complaints so I am assuming they are doing OK.

There are a variety of options. Everyone needs help with something. The family is the first resource. Most mothers, for example, live with their children after their husband dies. Ultimately it is a community responsibility to make sure everyone has a place. I think if this Taleban movement survives and gets a little more mature, they will loosen up on women who are not otherwise occupied being able to work in the public.

"No one is required to get an interesting and well-paying job. Women can still do what they've always done. What a "silly" statement." Well, we are truely blessed. Most of the men I talk to in similar situations bitch, moan, and groan endlessly about the "labor" jobs they "must" do to earn money (some times not so "well paying"). I guess it was "silly" for me to think women wouldn't cherish their daily ventures, when they all have the interesting and well paying jobs and/or every thing they've always done; just a pickin' and a choosin' among them golden nuggets, eh. What street do you live on(sarcasm)? Well but our "spinsters" are certainly a happy lot, right?

"Regarding that assertion, surely you're talking about the occasional mentally ill person..." That is why it is identified as a disability.
