<<<There are also people which I feel should not own guns, such as those who suffer chronic depression >>>
Severely depressed people should ask somebody to keep their guns for them until they recover. However, I don't think anybody is qualified to tell them whether they can have guns or not. That's the kind of thing the gestapo indulged in.

I had a friend who became depressed after the breakup of his marriage. He had somebody take care of his guns, and he later died of natural causes. Another man, a colleague who just moved to Juneau last year, missed a meeting we were scheduled for one morning in November. He was out in the parking lot, dead in his pickup with his rifle between his knees. Do I wish he had found a different solution? You bet! Would I have watched his guns for him until he recovered? You bet! Do I grieve for his wife and young daughter? You bet! Do I think he was stupid? You bet! Am I angry at him? More than you can imagine.

Do I think the depression police should have come to take his guns? Not in a million years. There's the bridge. He could have jumped. Fifteen minutes in Gastineau Channel would have done it through hypothermia if he didn't drown. Death in the high latitudes comes easy. He died, but he died free.

<<<who are prone to violent outbursts.>>>
Here I support the NRA "Three Strikes and you're out policy.

<<<I mainly thought it was an interesting story. >>>
It was indeed. A local politician where I used to live made the same suggestion, but it never went anywhere.

<<<Left or Right extremism is rarely appropriate.>>>
Actually, I can't think of any instance when left or right wing extremism is beneficial. Intellectual debate in a free forum is vital. That doesn't extend to one side interfering in the rights of the other.
