Charles Curran managed to survive far longer than one might have predicted on the faculty of the Catholic University of America, despite his quarrels with official doctrine on contraception and abortion, and my impression was that it was his arguments on abortion that did him in, not those on contraception. You are correct, though, the official line is not likely to change soon........
