TRENT LOTT'S DEATH WISH
Or to look at it in another way, it wasn't until the Supreme Court and Jeb Bush's Republican machine pushed Jr. Bush into the White House that many of us began to understand the corruption and power of the Republican party and The US Supreme Court. Americans were shocked when they learned that The Supreme Court is just another political machine. Remember how Sandra Day O'Connor was so upset because thousands of Americans sent the Supreme Court their Voter's Registration cards and wrote angry letters as well.
Because of the Republican machine, people like Lott could say anything they wanted and get away with it such as : Hillary isn't Senator. She might get hit by lightening.
And the Republican machine was so powerful...Look how the Republican party squandered millions in tax payer dollars in an effort to impeach Clinton because he had an affair and didn't want to admit it. Who can blame him. Most of the Republicans who pointed their finger at him also had affairs.
And as soon as Clinton was elected the Republican propaganda machine went to work:
I think Marueen Dowd summed it up very well:
"I had stumbled onto something big," Mr. Brock writes, "a symbiotic relationship that would help create a highly profitable right-wing Big Lie Machine that flourished in book publishing, on talk radio, and on the Internet throughout the 90's."

Dear jtmab,
In sum, The Toxic Texan ascent to power has made many Americans aware of the corruption in Washington. B4 Bush's election very few of us had heard of Tom Delay, Ted Olson, Paul O'Neil, John Ashcroft, Gail Norton, and I doubt that the average American knew that much about TRENT LOTT.
Bush's ascendency to the throne has also taught us the power and influence that big business have over government.
In particular, we learned that the CIVIL RIGHT's MOVEMENT suffered a setback with Bush's election.
Now that we've had a chance to take a closer look at Congress and the President, it is difficult to believe that Democracy will survive in this country, especially if the Republicans maintain their power..
It should not be a surprise that Bush talked about civility as soon as he became President. Certainly, he doesn't want to bring up his own past: drunk driving, possible cocaine bust and all the nasty comments that the Republicans made about the Clintons and their other opponents.
And does he want to talk about the way he made it to The White House? No way....
