SGI Japan Markets Itanium-Powered Server TOKYO (Nikkei)--SGI Japan Ltd. released Monday the Linux-based Silicon Graphics 750 server featuring the 64-bit Intel Itanium microprocessor. Shipments of the model will begin at the end of this month. The Japanese unit of Silicon Graphics Inc. of the U.S. claims the new model, containing a science/mathematics computation library, will facilitate the rapid transfer of data from large-scale computers. SGI Japan plans to sell 2,000 units annually, targeting universities and R&D divisions of manufacturers. The 733MHz, 1-gigabyte model will sell for 1,764,000 yen. By the end of this month, SGI Japan will also release the Silicon Graphics F180 flat-panel display offering high-resolution images. (The Nikkei Business Daily Tuesday edition)
