If you choose, your next few years can be wonders in exploration of some of the best literature ever written. What worlds lie before you!

Personally, I read very little modern writing. I figure if it's worth reading it will still be worth reading in 20 years, and if it's lasted that long and is still read, that will be plenty of time for me to read it. Meanwhile there is so much that I know is wonderful to read that I keep my limited reading time more than filled.

Of course in a year or so when I'm retired . . . but it will take at least a year just to polish off the shelf of books "waiting to be read" that I won't need to start adding to it for quite a while.

Then my first stop may be to fill in those parts of Clifton Fadiman's "Lifetime Reading Plan" that I haven't yet gotten around to. Would you believe that I haven't read either Milton or Dante since college? Revisiting them is one of the first things I'm looking forward to using my retirement for.
