<I take it, then, that you've never been on the trading floor of the NYSE!<G> >
Well, you made me grin there, when I imagined the frenzy that surrounds most major financial transactions. Yes, the NYSE and other pits are similar to the Aztecs at times, with cargo-cult wishful thinking ignoring what the companies actually do and what they are really worth. Chartists spread chicken entrails, heads and shoulders, rounding bottoms and candlestick finger forms like so many voodoo animists.
Now that you mention it, cyberspace is a bit like that too. Millions of us, all worshipping in front of our crystal ball screen. Those crystal balls are more the flat-screen type, than the traditional gypsy sphere, but when somebody mentioned crystal balls the other day, it suddenly occurred to me that that is exactly what we do.
We sit transfixed, for hours and hours, gazing into the murky world of cyberspace, looking for images of the future, hoping to be delivered from our penury and wage-slave lives.
We KNOW that all we see is just pixels on a screen, with our pixelated retinas and our bamboozled, pixilated brains and that there is not necessarily any reality whatsoever attached to those pixels, but still we gaze in belief and awe. [Which is not a slight on AT&T's convoluted plans for getting to 3G].
I hadn't thought of myself as a religious cultist, but am starting to get suspicious.
I will go 3D today for a touch of reality. Well, that's what I've been led to believe it is. Even if it isn't, it's another wonderful day in paradise.
Notice that QUALCOMM is indeed leading the world out of the glooom. Nokia has now signed for CDMA in 3G. Q! up 10%.
