tc, I already tried the IE repair tool. My 5.5 version which I downloaded from the Microsoft site (downloaded over the old IE5.1) came with the repair tool. That was the first thing I tried and it obviously didn't work or I wouldn't be driving everyone crazy with this problem. I am thinking of reinstalling WIN98 SE directly over my existing installation. I wonder if anyone has tried this and what kind of luck... or problems... they ran into. In the worse case scenario, I can do a format and restore with a DAT tape backup of my C drive with emergency recovery disks (using Veritas Backup Exec) to reinstall my current configuration. Should I do a custom install from the original WIN98 SE CD leaving out Internet Explorer (if that's possible) and leaving the new IE 5.5 (which I've downloaded twice at the instructions of Mindspring's tech support)? My biggest concern is losing all the programs, databases, IE favorites and e-mails, etc.. If the backup fails... whoops... big problems. Many thanks to all for their input. I wish I could just find the problem. Marty
