SAG/AFTRA and producers reach tentative deal
July 04, 2001

After seven weeks of negotiations, a tentative contract agreement between actors unions and the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers is reached at about 9:30 p.m. tonight. According to a source close to the talks, the two sides were very close to making a deal over the weekend but remained divided on the reworking of the basic cable formula, Pension & Health contributions and increases in minimum payments. The tentative deal reached will have to go through a two-step ratification process. SAG/AFTRA's joint board of directors will vote on the deal, and pending the necessary simple-majority endorsement, a membership vote, to be conducted by mail, will be initiated. A press conference outlining the agreement will be held shortly. More details to follow. (Peter Kiefer)
