Yet Another Successful Year at the Computer Expo

6/29/2001 4:50:00 AM

HONG KONG, Jun 29, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Hong Kong's largest IT exhibition, the Computer 2001 was a tremendous success this year. Held from May 24 to 27 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), the Expo recorded an increase in the number of visitors over the previous year from 78,764 to 79,256. Trade visitors accounted for 34,967 while 44,289 were members of the general public. The number of trade visitors figures are examined and attested by PricewaterhouseCoopers. Organised by Miller Freeman Asia, the Computer Expo provided all visitors the opportunity to preview products from 407 exhibiting companies representing 10 countries/regions. The four-day Expo opened its doors to the public during the last two days.

Said Mr. Michael Duck, Senior Vice President of Miller Freeman Asia, "We are extremely pleased with this year's attendance record, especially since the figure has increased over that of the year before. The overall increase is commendable particularly in view of the current depressed sentiment of the global IT industry."

In addition, there was a very balanced mix of exhibitors covering almost every sector of the IT industry, from e-commerce, communication solutions and hardware to digital products.

Ms. Stella Fung, Event Manager for Miller Freeman Asia said, "This year many more product launches were held during the Expo. The great support from the industry further reinforced the Computer Expo's position as the most vital IT exhibition in Hong Kong."

Among the products that were launched included PDAs, software, digital cameras, notebooks, mobile phones and printers.

CONFERENCE

Another new element in this year's Expo was the all-day conference 'm-Business Discovery Day' which was co-organised by Miller Freeman Asia and Asian Solutions Center. Over 300 visitors attended this information packed conference.

"This was the first time that a major conference has been held concurrently with the Computer Expo. It marks a milestone in the Expo's development. We received very positive feedback from the participants who said that the conference aptly complemented the Expo. Consequently, we are exploring the possibility of hosting similar conferences in the future," said Ms. Fung.

SEMINARS

A total of 29 seminars were held during the course of the four-day Expo in the App Theatre and other seminar rooms within the HKCEC.

A variety of topics were covered highlighting the latest hardware and software technology including home networking, storage technology, blue tooth technology and applications, e-security and risk management.

"The seminars not only provided exhibitors with an ideal platform to promote their products but also gave visitors the opportunity to acquire more in-depth understanding of specific products and services which were of particular interest to them," said Ms. Fung.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Miller Freeman Asia also joint hands with local magazine PC Weekly to organise the "2nd Over-ClocKING Tournament" which was held on the last two days of the Computer 2001. The tournament attracted 70 entries and aroused much interest among Expo visitors who were keen to know how to maximize their computer powers by overclocking the CPUs.
