Marconi Shares Down 50% as Trading Resumes

Shares in Marconi fell more than 50 per cent in the opening minutes of trade on Thursday morning after the UK telecoms equipment maker said its operating profits would halve this year and another 4,000 jobs would be cut across the group. The shares, which had been suspended from trading on Wednesday as the Marconi board of directors met to agree the wording of the warning, fell to 117-1/2p.

Its CEO said: "The thing that had really changed in the last few months is how customers in Europe have really turned off the tap in capital expenditure."

Guess we can't count on Europe to lead the tech capex turnaround.
