Bush started the GOP elections with 50 million in soft money, the most ever raised, mostly from polluters and heavy industry. McCain never had a chance because he couldn't afford the TV time. Also Bush was a clever campaigner, and promised all sorts of things he has failed to deliver. He constantly lied during the campaign. Constantly. The whole compassion thing was 95% BS and still is.
