We do know that
PPD gets worse with each successive pregnancy

Hmm. I didn't know that. Do you think Mr. Yates did?

But surely the emotional balance in a marriage when one partner is severly compromised gets
way off kilter.

Presumably so. But, how is a husband to deal with that? I grant that serving divorce papers in the hospital seems a bit extreme. But with all the focus on PPD, what resources are there for the person living with a PPD spouse? So far we haven't defined the syndrome SLWSWPPD (spouse living with spouse with PPD). We have recognized co-dependency in alcohol addiction cases, and treat it as a separate problem. Is there anything similar done for spouses in these cases? I have no idea, never having dealt with either a spouse with PPD or a client with a spouse with PPD. But I'm wondering a) how I would react if it happened to me, and b) how I would advise a client if it happened to him?
