Yep, I do remember Joe G. I still would like to know who he was. I suspect he had been a college physics professor.

I never read how Getty made his fortune, but I do remember a biography of his personal life that came out about 10 years ago. Old J Paul was in a league with, oh, Caligula.

There's a company, Augustus M Kelley, that publishes "reprints of economic classics". I've two volumes they publish and they're both excellent, Capital and Finance in the Age of the Renaissance and The Evolution of Finance Capitalism. They're really quite fascinating despite their titles. I ought to see what else I can find that Kelley publishes.
