AMGN's results with Leptin seem pretty disappointing. Who wants to undergo injections for 3 months just to lose 9 pounds? There is a company whose name I can't remember working on delivery systems that allow drugs to be taken orally which would not usually be absorbed intact from the GI tract. (? Fuisz is the company). I wonder if Leptin would work with their method?

Regarding the warrants and increasing your investment in Ligand without increasing the $$$ needed: Another way to leverage your investment is to buy deep in the money calls. A couple of weeks ago the November 7.5 calls (LQPKU) could be bought for only a 1/2 premium over intrinsic value.

These deep in the money options move basically point for point with the underlying stock except that if the stock takes a dive, they'll move down less (as the intrinsic value decreases, the time value increases). Of course, you have to wait until expiration before the price will catch up to the intrinsic value.

When Ligand was $13, the LQPKU's were asking $6. I believe that that was a temporary anomaly (the premium being that low for a November call) You can control twice the number of shares for the same price. Also, the more Ligand continues to do well, the more premium the calls will command. If it drops, the puts will become over valued.
