As I see it, there are two compelling reasons why the current govt will not support Federal $ for stem cell research. Firstly, there is the question concerning exaggerated mutation potential in the "F1" generation and limited information on generations beyond that. Second, is conservatism politics and the Republicans have already hinted against such support. That is the major reason why an NIH Institute head left the NIH for a deanship at Columbia about a year ago. He was to be in line for the overall NIH honcho job. The perceived stem cell decision helped him make up his mind.

I think the govt ultimately will support such research but not provide public $ for such.
