<who are the biggest homebuilders in the Houston area?>

Most are regional/local builders and are not publicly listed. However ... I've been keeping my eye on LEN (Lennar). Not because of Houston, but because of other markets. LEN acquired Houston-based, US Home in May 2000. Strong TX presence and elsewhere. Got some interesting time-line info from their website:

"When the economy buckled in the mid-eighties, a program was initiated to streamline and refocus Company's operations ... banking crisis in 1990 ... difficult restructuring period in 1991 and 1992 ... Today, U.S. Home has one of the strongest financial statements in the housing industry. U.S. Home now builds in more than 240 communities in 33 metropolitan areas. Additionally, the Company has become one of the nation's largest retirement and active [55+] adult homebuilders, having delivered more than 45,000 homes in these market segments."

I'll get some LEN info to you over weekend. I've been tracking it for past few months. WHOOPS - LEN's down over 4% this AM.
