Well done... I agree it's something of an acquired taste (again like red wine); but once acquired, proper beer is so superior to the fizzy keg stuff.

When I'm in the US I do always sample the local micro-brews, but they're still mostly designed to be drunk cold. Some of the Pyramid ales (from Seattle?) are good - the Apricot Ale is refreshing in hot weather - but the only one I'd really seek out is Celis White.
As for Budweiser... sorry, I've had proper Czech Budvar Budweiser and there's no comparison. If you haven't tried it, do - it's the difference between discount beef and prime fillet steak...
