July 9 issue — To save money, Ray And Anita DeSilva usually vacation close to their Beaverton, Ore., home. But this year the DeSilvas decided to splurge and take their 16-year-old son to Orlando, Fla. They cashed in some frequent-flier miles and budgeted about $4,000 for the trip. The first big bill was a five-day pass for the three of them to Disney World. Cost: $790. Then they visited SeaWorld Discovery Cove. Admission: $267 for the family. And if they wanted to swim with the bottlenose dolphins? An extra $110 per person. They’re now waiting to see what their weeklong trip cost them. “I’m afraid to look at my credit-card bill,” says Anita DeSilva
