On the other hand... If you have paid off your house, and have no other outstanding debts, and your career goes down the tubes because of the downturn, you can down size your spending, get a shelf fillers job at the local supermarket to pay for beer and local taxes, and still live in happy splendor.

...you can still play the market to hit the "big time" if our wonderful global economy takes off from here.

The real "house bargains" will be available when everyone is truly broke, and the foreclosure adverts fill out the biggest space in your local Sunday Newspapers.
