There were inflows into mutual funds but many managers might have been on vacation. Explains part of the low volume and the severe drops we saw in stock prices after profit warnings. We had actually seen gains after warnings in the week before...another sign of buyers being on vacation.

There was little new supply this week. What happened to the cash? My guess is that funds took the money in but will buy later. Just a small positive for the bullish case (at least to put a support on the Nasdaq..maybe) but something bigger is needed such a good earnings report and outlook from a large cap tech. Otherwise, it does not look good near term.

$1.3 Billion Inflow To Equities The Week Ending Tuesday, July 3, 2001

Director of Research Carl Wittnebert estimates that all equity funds had inflows of $1.3 billion over the four business days ending ending Tuesday, July 3, compared with inflows of $3.5 billion during the prior week.

Equity funds that invest primarily in US stocks had inflows of $100 million, compared with inflows of $2.8 billion the prior week.

International equity funds had inflows of $1.2 billion, compared with inflows of $700 million the prior week.

Bond funds had inflows of $900 million, compared with outflows of $400 million the prior week.

Hybrid funds had zero flow this week, compared with inflows of $100 million the prior week.
