Ted...Good to see you drop by.
re: Overall not time to buying AMD right now.

Considering that Intel's ASPs have tumbled right along with AMD's, what do you think the odds are they will also warn? Just thought I'd get your take on this as I'm considering puts on Intel at the moment.

Ed, I would be careful with any Intel trade that is not a long right now. The market is saying...at least today...that AMD is the one suffering, not Intel. Also note that EMC's warning took BRCD, QLGC and MCDTA down with it. That's not what happened with AMD and Intel. I would wait til Monday to see how Intel trades during the expected dead cat bounce.

And before someone tells you that today's slaughter is an example of the old AMD bias...that bias has been dead for 5 of the last 6 months. Only about month ago did AMD begin to weaken vis a vis Intel.

Also Intel is pretty well wired into the markets....I think we would see some evidence that a warning is eminent. In fact, Intel has been trading the last 3 mos. like a stock about which the market is undecided. I suspect the indecision is due to dissatisfaction with current management.

Bottomline: Intel is one I would stay away from until the current congestion or lack of direction is decided one way or the other. They have too many ways to cover an earnings shortfall and given the precarious state of the markets, they are smart enough to be careful not to warn. All of the old time tech biggies like MSFT and DELL and IBM and Intel are being really careful not to mislead investors and analysts, and then cause an unexpected downside move....it would unnerve the markets unduly.

This market is tough to psyche out so it goes without saying, be careful whatever you do.
