>The Taleban seeks to bring back civility, decency, a sense of autonomy among its people, etc<
ROFL Although I am a relativist I must point out that even relativists have points of view- and in mine "decency" does not encompass public execution and maiming, the subjugation of women, and the destruction of art treasures. I must also point out that I consider all the aformentioned the height of incivility, as well. I would have a hard time thinking of any place outside of the Balkans and parts of worn torn Africa, less "civil" and "decent" than Afghanistan. Of course this is simply my POV as yours is yours. But I am not trying to hang my hat on the collective will of the great unwashed masses of Afghanis- whose will I do not know, and whose will I am pretty sure you do not know either. The fact that some of your best friends are Muslims in this country, and that you are a Muslim, lends absolutely no credence to your statements about Afghanistan. The fact that you bring up these people that you talk to as some sort of evidence (of what? They're here- why here and not there?), is evidence of your illogical arguments. Their anecdotes and opinions are no evidence for what you are trying to argue. Bravo for trying to obscure the issue with verbiage, but it won't work with me. And I am about as culturally sensitive as they come- don't try to paint me as culturally insensitive, it won't wash. It has nothing to do with them being "us" wannabes" or not like "us". Because for me there is no us. I don't like anybody very much. I think they have every right to do whatever they want- but the world community, doesn't have to respect them- only their borders (imo). Respect is earned by fitting in- if they don't wish to fit in to the world community (seeing as how they wish to be especially pure) that's (imo) their right if they stay within their borders. But it is NOT their right to be liked, or to be free of the disdain and disgust the rest of the world feels for them. For that is the right of the rest of the world. |
