As you can clearly see, every month of 2001 had a lower unemployment rate than the same month 2000. And since the beginning of the year '01 every month had a lower unemployment rate than the month before. It's clearly falling, although the pace has slowed due to an economic slowdown.


Any chance the German government plays the same kinds of tricks as the Danish? If you go by our social-democratic government's official numbers, unemployment in Denmark is down over the 7 or so years they've been in power now. However, most (if not all - or more than all) of that is accomplished by inventing new categories and training programs. These may or may not have any real impact, but they do lower the unemployment FIGURES.
