Very interesting article: theinquirer.net It certainly makes some valid points, but....

I notice that in the very recent past, that when AMD was kicking the crap out of intel, "everyone" was running around spouting about how "Competition was good", and the fact that, "That leads to better products at cheaper prices", that "Low Chip Prices are great". Now however, when it appears that the shoe is on the other foot, and intel is beginning to kick the crap out of AMD, NOW competition is bad, and low chip prices are bad. My how times have changed.

I guess competition is only good when it is the underdog is sticking it to the leader, otherwise, let's get the European Union in there, and the FTC in there, and let's investigate the leader, because success is only fair, if it's the underdog that has it. Right?

Well, for the past couple of years, practically EVERY article that I've seen written about intel was critical of their success. What was it they're called? Oh Yeah.... "CHIPZILLA", or "600 Pound Gorilla", who happens to reside in "Satan Clara". Yeah, that was it, I just can't remember who coined those terms....

Well, everybody wanted AMD to stick it to intel, because they were slow to innovate, slow to cut prices, overcharged for their products. Well, now they're not any of those things. Everybody got what they asked for. How do they like it??? Not much, I see. There's an old saying..... Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

I'm reminded of a movie I saw several years ago about the attack on Pearl Harbor at the beginning of WWII. I think it might have been called "Tora, Tora, Tora". In one scene, just after the attack, the Japanese were discussing the results in a conference room aboard Admiral Yammamoto's Ship. While all the junior officers were congratulating themselves on the successful attack, Admiral Yammamoto was silent. He knew that what appeared to be a success, was really only a partial temporary victory, that would certainly lead to eventual defeat. When asked why he was depressed, he said that they had not succeeded in Completely destroying the Carriers of the American Navy, and he feared that all they had succeeded in doing was awakening a "Sleeping Giant".

Everyone is getting exactly what they asked for. AMD hurt intel badly with Athlon, but through Jerry Sanders own egotistical mis-management, they didn't deliver the destructive blow they needed. Intel, the "Giant Gorilla", may have been asleep for quite some time, but they're awake now..... Aren't they.
