company to sample-test chip sets next month that will be
compatible with synchronous CDMA phones.

products, is to up its R&D spend for 2001 to ensure the
delivery of chips for the rollout of third generation
IMT-2000 mobile phone services.

Already, the US company has upped its R&D outgoing
to $105m for Q2 of 2001 compared with $72m for the
same period last year and $84m in Q1 of 2001.
