Re: speaking of the Athlon MP 1.4 part

It's easy to underestimate the potential impact of AthlonMP. We know from
anandtech.com
that the performance of AMD's dual processor systems is spectacular - better than anything Intel will have for the forseeable future. When MSI's lower cost motherboard starts shipping next month, moving from a single P4 1.7 or Athlon 1.4 to a Dual AthlonMP 1.4 would add $300 or $400 to the cost of a system, but leave the buyer with the unquestioned "best there is".

If AthlonMP ASPs are $200, and 1 million such systems were sold in Q4, it would add $400 million to earnings - compared to $985 million for the whole company this quarter, flash, embedded, and 7.3 million CPUs combined. About $1.25 additional EPS from a mere 1 million systems sold.

Regards,

Dan
