It seemed that you were implying that any accountability of the Chinese government to its people would be tantamount to making them accountable to criminals.
No, the Chinese government doesn't want to see terrorist act that affect others' daily routines. That kind of the criminal act Chinese government is worrying about and targeting at.
if chinese people could go anywhere they wanted, they wouldn't be stowing away on boats, or paying smugglers thousands of dollars, or selling themselves into indentured servitude and slavery to leave China. Bejing is happy to export its excess labor overseas to nations that can't absorb it. And that's hardly something to be proud about.
yes, I hate to see this too. But those people who are willing to risk their lives hiding in ships should take their own action responsible. They simply don't know the reality and what the real world is outside China. Not long ago, Russian illegal aliens arrived in San Diego too. Unfortunately, life is sometimes tough out there.
economic prosperity can occur without political freedom.
Well, we can take Russia as an example.
because the foundation that your prosperity is built upon is rotten to the core and will eventually collapse.
That doesn't boil well when one country has big debt and bad loans, even though they have political freedom.
Economic prosperity is built upon fundamental respect for individual rights and freedoms.
I agree. Take a look at the Nikkei .... hmmm
the economic interests in China are lining up behind different factions in the CCP, each vying to create, extend, and/or preserve their personal political power. And they are accountable to no one but themselves and their political rivals.
That is so true. The faction leaders think too many elections representing so many people is so cumbersome for the country to strive for success and growth. A term limit of infinity is what they have in minds. But I agree some people should have rights to speak out for improvement, not destruction.
And it was China that launched a coordinated offensive against India in 1962.
Wondering why Pakistan and Kashmir are so scared about India more than about China .... And who is called an "Empire" afterall.
And I also believe the US has FAR MORE to worry about from Islamic terrorism than China.
So that's why US and China should be partners to tackle on this issue, much like China, Russia, and all the Asia-minor countries that have their names ended with "stan".
Of course, given that the Chinese Han have treated the local muslims like their second class citizens with no rights might have something to do with the receptiveness found towards extremist fundamentalists.
That's not true. They do have freedom to practice in western province in China. A HK video recently has proved this. 2 HK female celebrities traveled there and they weren't allowed to enter all-male Holy session. What a shame! But the filming crews were allowed to capture what the holy crap they were doing.
Afterall, extremist fundamentalists are against capitalism, which you and I are practicing. I don't know when they would target at asceticism. I'm scared.
