Yes, you're right. But I have invented a really delicious bread pudding using Egg Beaters, evaporated skim milk, sugar, good vanilla, nutmeg, grated lemon peel (optional), de-crusted (good, coarse) Italian bread, and dates. Or dried apricots. If I don't use dates or apricots, I serve it with berries. I under-sugar it, so it's virtuous and, I swear to you, transcendently delicious. Especially smothered in heavy cream. NO NO, that part was a joke, no heavy cream.
If chocolate didn't give me a headache, I'd try doing a chocolate bread pudding this way.
But this wouldn't work with floating island because it doesn't have enough additional ingredients to disguise the trickery.
