In other words, the Hammer design team slipped their schedule so much that the non-SOI version of Hammer would have had a very short life span. So instead they cancelled the non-SOI version and came up with this perfect cover story. Bingo! Merced taped out on .25u and lots of valuable debug work was accomplished before moving it to .18u for production. AMDs excuse is as transparent as it could get. EP
