| In-N-Out has a cult following mainly because of their incredibly minimalistic, quality menu and their long term constancy. As to burgers you can get a hamberburger, cheeseburger and a "double double" no other variations (all never frozen...no freezers, cooked on demand). One size of fries (cooked from potatos cut in the store), shakes (with real dairy products) and sodas. Nothing else. No chicken, no salads, no combos, no value meals, no bar-b-que, no Mexican, no heat lamps, no microwaves, etc. Very sparse environment, no franchising.... They've been around since 1948 (so they predate just about everyone else.... the others are the anothers) and have slowly expanded.... started in California (of course) and now in Nevada and Arizona. They look "retro" because they haven't changed there styling, nor their menu.... also they claim to have been the first "drive through" ever - hence the name In-N-Out. |
