Re: PaloMeatHEad, etc. which themselves keep slipping

You can pick up a Palomino notebook at Best Buy this afternoon or order a Palomino server from several sources for overnight delivery. Desktop palomino was thought to be necessary to get AMD above 1.2GHZ as confirmed by this slide from early November of last year.

But they're at 1.4 now using a smaller die, with likely higher yields, so why switch just yet?

What happened to the 2GHZ P4s we were told last fall to expect shortly after the holidays?

Compared to SUN, VIA, Alpha, and Motorola both Intel and AMD have been executing surprisingly close to plan. AMD mhz are lagging, and Intel IPC is lagging. So far the mhz lag has been a lot more significant, but IPC lags generally either don't matter or kill you, so you'd best hope the market continues to ignore the P4 IPC lag.

If brookdale ends up shining a spotlight on the P4 IPC lag, it could cost Intel dearly.
