Research is never a waste of time, no matter how many times you change your conclusions. I agree, though, it often feels that way. Holding onto a loser because an investor doesn't want to admit a mistake, is a classic, well-proven tendency for investors. It's a trap we are all prone to make.
I think, however, that eventually i'll get the idea that making money is more important than my feels getting hurt b/c i made a bad decision. I must keep my mind open..
Jacob, i'm interested in what information would sway your thinking on which company will become the king of storage. I might be less informed on storage than i'd like to be, but from what i've read it doesn't look like NTAP or EMC really have a open-proprietary system where 3rd party companies develop around creating a network effect (like Windows, Aol's IM tech, QCOM's CDMA, Intel's ia-64 architecture? ect..) Hmm...NetApp does have its ONTAP OS which might have a small value chain (if i remember correctly, Oracle and MS have announced support for ONTAP).
What event would make you come to the conclusion that EMC or NetApp is the winner? btw, I'm assuming you already own both NTAP and EMC shares. |
