<< Bush's energy czar Abraham is asking for 1700 new power plants. >>

I've read numerous studies by various parties and they all come to a similar conclusion. Even articles by extreme liberals have sited the fact that we need to over 1000 power plants in the next 10 years due to growth in energy use. This really isn't the question.

The question is how much could be saved by seriously stepping up conservation. Not much. One study I read was that we would need 1200 new power plants in lieu of 1600 new power plants if we could reduce consumption by automobiles by 5% every year. That's unlikely, and even if it was, we'd still need 1200 new power plants.
