The difference, and the reason we find the Taleban so utterly repulsive, is that they do not allow any behaviour, any action, any thought but what meets their - narrow - dictates. We do, even when it means enduring the bigoted, pseudo-medieval rantings of those who would confine half the population to breeding and servitude and strait-jacket the minds of the other half to make more fanatical warriors. And accepting the hypocrital platitudes of their defenders.
brees, if the Taleban is so beloved why is Pakistan (not normally a desirable destination) inundated with refugees? Can you see no difference between a woman wearing a swimming costume (harming no one, except possibly her own skin) and being stoned to death...?
I'll happily challenge anyone here to go to Afghanistan and see what happens if they behave as they do in the US. Go on, try speaking out in the rubble that remains of Kabul. Something not too controversial, perhaps advocating medical care for women or the virtues of education. Maybe try showing a film, or listening to the radio. I'll even write to Amnesty on your behalf, if you are allowed to survive. |
