ronho,
<< Euros now being overwhelmed with QCOM's superior technology. >>
I can hear them now - Oh, Ah, Oh, Whee.
QCOM just sampled the MSM5500 ASICS --- an advanced 1X-EV-DO design having a full feature set. Due to NOK's stubornness and incompetence it appears that most advances feature handsets will soon be manufactured in Korea and Japan and sold to European operators.
Do may a favor. When the combined sales of the top six top manufacturers in Korea and Japan pass Nokia's please let me know.
They certainly are making an effort to do so, by increasingly migrating their production from CDMA to GSM & GPRS which is a considerably larger (5+ X) market
<< MSM5500 - an advanced 1X-EV-DO design >>
Advanced?
Its the first 1X-EV-DO design - so I guess that is an advance.
Now, lets see.
No cross modal standard for 1X-EV-DO on GSM MAP exists.
TBOMK no cross modal standard for 1X-EV-DO on GSM MAP is in progress, which means interest in 1X-EV-DO in Europe is underwhwelming rather than overwhelming.
Given the time it would take to develop the standard, and commercialize the standard, the Euro's might as well wait for WCDMA with HSDPA, wouldn't you say?
Have any carriers contracted for a 1X-EV-DO buildout, or are we just talking trials?
Will any carriers outside of Korea and Japan really implement 1X-EV-DO on any scale, or will they wait for 1X-EV-DO?
Always good to see the first ASIC for any new technology sample.
Looking forward to the Q4 2001 1X-EV-DO "commercial launch" the mother church has promised us, aren't you.
