I seriously doubt that there could ever be enough "independent corroboration" to convince you of something that you clearly do not want to be true. I acknowledge that I have "a stake in accepting it" Do you likewise admit that you have a stake in denying it? All sin is ultimately against God, and it is He that we must give an accounting of our lives to. If, as you have admitted, you have not lived a sinless life, then you will have to answer to God, for each one of them, on your own. Hell's theme song will be, "I did it my way". If you insist on justice, you will have it. "I don't expect that to happen any time soon." Stranger things have happened to harder cases than you, and besides, "No one expects the Spanish inquisition!" :)
