650kHz Rail-to-Rail Op Amp in Teeny(TM) SC-70 Package Draws 90% Less Current Than Rivals
biz.yahoo.com
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- A tiny 650kHz, rail-to-rail output, operational amplifier that operates down to 2.7V supply while consuming only 4.6uA is now available from Micrel Semiconductor (Nasdaq: MCRL), an industry leader in analog and high-speed communication integrated circuits.

The MIC861 operates from 5V down to 2.7V and provides a -3dB bandwidth of 650kHz and a 400kHz gain-bandwidth product, yet consumes only 4.6uA supply current. Traditional op amps at this speed consume more than 50uA, and many consume much more. Packaging is also much smaller; Micrel's Teeny(TM) SC70-5 packaging is approximately one-half the size of SOT23-5 packaging.

``The MIC820 and MIC860, introduced earlier in the year, set a new standard for low power at 4MHz to 5MHz gain-bandwidths,'' said Scott Brown, Linear and RF Business Unit Manager. ``We've now applied the same chip design techniques at a lower speed and have achieved the same 10x improvement in power consumption over the best existing products.''

The MIC861 is unity gain stable. It is specified at supply voltages of 2.7V and 5V. Input offset voltage is 2mV (typical), large signal voltage gain is 83dB, PSRR is 85dB and CMRR is 80dB.
