Re: Considering the amount of time and effort it takes to validate server platforms on a new speed grade

Whereas we know from the 1.13 PIII that Intel just ships new desktop CPUs and lets the endusers figure out if they work or not? Remember that Compaq had to clue Intel in on the problems with the first Profusion iteration.

I don't think AMD has 1.7GHZ palominos piling up that AMD isn't selling 'cause they aren't in the mood, and I don't think Intel had 800MHZ Cascades piling up that they weren't selling cause they didn't want to verify the new chips (aw Mom, do I HAVE to check out another speed grade? I won't, I won't, I won't!)

We know from the 1.13 experience that the PIII core can start mangling data in some very subtle ways when it gets pushed too hard, it doesn't just (relatively safely) lock up with a bunch of hard errors.
